| george washington's dad is a perve. |
[05 Jun 2008|11:24am] |
today was famous person biography day in my mom's third grade class. it was my job to photograph all the kids in their costumes. i think my favorite was billy the kid. his mom drew a mustache and beard on his face, and he had these crazy cowboy boots. plus, he was a really nice kid. helen keller was pretty awesome too. she was the smartest kid in the class, and she was super pissed that she only got one chocolate chip muffin. she kind of reminded me of what i was like in third grade, except i wasn't the smartest kid in the class (i think rishan was), i wasn't asian, and i would have taken that second muffin without a second thought.
anyway, there were two kids dressed as george washington. one of them was totally adorable and had a sweet cotton ball powdered wig- and he had a great costume. the other one had a great costume too, and was a really nice kid, but his dad was a creep. he definitely grazed my butt with his hand when he was grabbing chairs. it seemed purposeful. afterward, he just kind of said, "ooops, sorry." but smirked. and i was thinking, if your eight year old wasn't here, i would kick you in the shin. and then other places. and it would leave marks.
after all the parents left, i showed the kids some of my work, including all the toys i made, the books from the toys, and then my book that i made out of all the crazy portraits from first quarter. the kids were literally SCREAMING looking at the altered faces. it was sweet. i think saqib's freaked them out the worst. they were really into nancy's normal portrait - saying things like, "she has tattoos! she looks tough! i like her!" etc

| yay! show! |
[02 Jun 2008|06:30pm] |
i'm in a really neat art show this weekend. you rochestarians really need to go!
it's at the rochester contemporary art center (roco!)
the show is a group of really random work by many different artists, but it's all 6" by 6", and it's all $20. some of the work is by well-known artists, like john pfahl, and some of it is from my teachers - dan larkin, joe z, and some is from me! and my classmates - megan charland, for one.
anyway, it's a really interesting way to see lots of different works of art. originally, they wanted to have 2008 pieces, but they got such a huge response, it's now up to more than 3200! i think that's pretty sweet.

| i should not be near wild animals. |
[27 May 2008|06:11pm] |
erin and i took her little daughter early (to clear up any possible confusion, the baby's name is early. i find i need to stress that, otherwise i end up in "who is on first" conversations) for a walk yesterday around our neighborhood. i live in the suburbs, so most of the wild animals i see are birds, rabbits, and squirrels. not yesterday, though. the three of us were walking on the road that runs parallel to ours, and we saw something. erin thought it was a cat, i thought it was a fox, and i was right. now, what was my first instinct? pet the fox.
pet the freakin fox.
i didn't do it, but i think it's probably bad that that's what my brain initially told me to do. not, "this animal may be rabid" or "this animal may attack if you get too close." no, it was, "go over and pet that cute little fox. it is little and cute."
we got pretty close to it before it ran away. it was the closest i've ever been to a fox. i was surprised it waited that long before running away.

i don't really know what to say about it. well, yes i do, but i won't. you'll just have to see for yourselves.

now is the time for sleep. i should do homework, but that's what the morning is for.

[13 May 2008|05:12pm] |
oh geez i'm so excited.
i just had a phone interview with this really enthusiastic guy from greenpeace, and i was really enthusiastic and he offered me a real interview!!! yay!!! it has nothing to do with my major, but who the hell cares!!!
oh man.
if i get this job, i'm going to have to do a lot of talking to strangers. i can do that. plus, there's a good chance i'll end up on overheard everywhere, and that's always a plus, right?
i've been freaking out so much lately about finding a job. this is a good thing, i hope :o)

Did you create your personality, or are you a product of your environment?
How do you adapt and change? Why?

[08 May 2008|05:42pm] |
since starting my project this quarter, i've gotten sucked into the world of crafting blogs. they are awesome and i cannot stop looking at them. they interest me more than a lot of the photo ones i've been looking at lately. i don't want to take pictures right now - i just want to make little people out of felt. is that so wrong?
PS - please fill out my mini survey, if you will (the entry before this, if you get a chance.)

| hello intarweb friends |
[07 May 2008|02:26pm] |
heyyy. i'm working on this identity assignment for my contemporary issues class. i made up this tiny little survey for it, and i was wondering if a few of you kind people would fill it out. it's very basic and kind of lame, but that's all right with me. anyway, here it is:
Survey Questions
1 - What (5-10) words best describe you? This can be a list or sentence.
2 - How would your significant other or best friend (or both) describe you.
3 - How would your ex or ex best friend (or both) describe you.
4 - How do you think others perceive you? Is it accurate?
5 - Have you changed a lot over the past year? How?

| do i look like the kind of person that has a meth lab in the kitchen? |
[05 Apr 2008|02:19pm] |
seriously?
i show up at wegman's for tissues, tape, and sudafed, and end up having to fill out a form and show ID just to buy my cold medication. and that pharmacist was completely into the whole thing, studying my driver's license and staring at my face - writing down my address - making me sign the form on three different places. apparently buying one box of 24 pills makes me a threat. i just want to be able to breathe through my nose again. why is that such a problem?

so i'm watching ondemand cinemax. alpha dog. this movie is ridiculous.
justin timberlake isn't actually that bad in this. i mean, he's not an actor, but at least i'm not outright laughing at him now the way i was in black snake moan. he has really pointy ears, btw.

today i realized that my visualization of god (which changes frequently) is currently a south philly italian gay man. i don't know why, maybe it's an allusion to my favorite deacon from church when i was a kid. anything is possible. also, He is short.
i finally get to work on a photo project that's been swimming in my head for over a year. i'm going to be a voyeur. i'm going to have to run very fast. i'm going to pray to the italian gay man that no dogs get me. i'll post whatever is successful, maybe. if i feel like it. anyway, we're supposed to take empathetic and exploitative photographs of our surroundings for my contemporary issues class. i'm oh so excited.

so... i'm to be a part of a show in may :o)
now i just have to scrape together $240 to pay for my prints and frames.
it should be a pretty eclectic show. not just photography - also 3D stuff and video installation work. when i get more info, i'll post it.
it's going to be at booksmart gallery, so any of you rochester kids better go and support.
i'm pretty jazzed.
